Ideal Race

Updated 8 November 2026

Who can use it: Enterprise and above.

For a horse you follow, you write down the race that brings out its best. RaceMetrics then checks every race it is declared for against that list and tells you how well today's race fits.

Setting it up

Open the horse's profile and go to My Notes. Under each note there is an Ideal race box. Click Set the ideal race, then pick from Add a condition:

  • Going, Trip, Course (or courses to avoid), Track type, Direction
  • Level of race (against the biggest race it has won), Mark (against its highest winning handicap mark), Days since last run, Runners
  • Draw, Pace (a strong pace to aim at, or an easy lead), Class move, Headgear

Each condition is a Must or a Nice. The box also shows conditions suggested from its record, with the runs behind each one; nothing is added unless you pick it. Click Save the ideal race when you are done.

You can keep one ideal race for each My Notes tab (General, Flat Turf & NHF, Flat AW, Hurdle, Chase). A race uses the tab for its race type, or General if that tab has none.

The verdict

  • Suits today: every must-have met, and no more than one nice-to-have missed.
  • Part fit: one must-have missed, or two or more nice-to-haves missed.
  • Against it today: two or more must-haves missed. If it is beaten, the defeat can be forgiven.

A condition that cannot be known yet (the draw before it is made, for example) shows a question mark and is never held against the horse.

Where you see it

  • My Card: a line under the horse's note, with Show to open the condition-by-condition list.
  • Runners A-Z: a pill beside the horse, with what it missed when you hover.
  • Dashboard: in the pencil hover on the race tiles.
  • The 9pm email of your noted horses running tomorrow.

It is a guide to the race, not a tip: it tells you whether today's conditions are the ones you said suit the horse, not whether it will win.
