October was the busiest month RaceMetrics has had. Two hundred and ninety-six separate releases went live, more than in any month before it.
Results now reach the site within minutes of each race. The entries appear from the five-day stage. Every race gets a written preview, and every page has a new look with a light and dark mode.
Here is the whole month in one place.
The month in three numbers
- Releases: 296
- System Builder rules: 842 → 996
- Breakdown tables: 254 → 312
Results as they happen
Fast Results is a free public page with every British and Irish result within minutes of the race: the placings, starting prices, distances beaten and race details, for today and yesterday. It has a course picker and a dark mode, and shows more races side by side on a wide screen.
Those results then spread across the site. Each is marked provisional until the official result arrives overnight.
- The racecard shows the first four at the top, with place pills on the runners
- The dashboard tiles show the winner and starting price
- Today's Qualifiers, Market Movers, Hot & Cold Trainers and Runners A-Z put each horse's position beside its name, with a running tally such as 2 winners from 9 run so far today
RaceMetrics Pro and Proform Premium members also get a reading of the ground on Fast Results. As a British turf meeting is run, the winning times say how the ground seems to be riding, from the second race on. It is an opinion from the clock, labelled as one.
A new look, with light and dark on every page
Every page now shares one cleaner design: clearer tables, the same header and menus throughout, and a sun and moon switch at the top. Each page remembers your choice. Nothing moved or went away, so every column, filter and tool works as before. See the new look.
The entries, days before the declared card
Future racecards put the entries for every British and Irish race on the dashboard from the five-day stage. Open a race for every horse with its current RaceMetrics Rating, its trainer and jockey ratings and the Combined Score, plus weight, official rating and last run. Horses taken out stay greyed at the foot, and a change log records everything that moves. Once the declared card is out, the race opens on the racecard. The ratings come with any paid plan. Watch how it works.
A written preview of every race
Each morning every British and Irish race gets a short written preview on its racecard, with the runner it likes and a one-line verdict. The day's biggest races get a more detailed read. RaceMetrics Pro and Proform Premium members can read the full piece.
Ready for the jumps season
Jumps Horses to Follow lists 232 British and Irish horses: every one whose official rating rose 7lb or more last season, measured hurdles against hurdles and chases against chases, and which won or placed on its last run. Each shows its runs this season and its next entry, and the list keeps its own record. Enterprise, RaceMetrics Pro and Proform Premium members see all of it, and everyone else sees the first ten.
Festival Dossier follows the leading runners from the jumps races that have sent the most horses on to the Dublin Racing Festival and the Cheltenham Festival, with how each has run since. It also lists those feeder races, when each is due, and how past runners went on to fare. It is a Proform Premium page, and everyone else sees the top ten.
Sectionals
Race Tempo says how every Flat race with sectional times was run: how fast the leaders went over the first half against the usual for that course and trip, with the ground allowed for, graded from Dawdled to Strongly run. Each runner gets a short note on how it raced against that gallop. It appears on the sectionals panel, the form lines, Meeting Pace and every profile, and it can be back-tested in the System Builder. Watch Race Tempo.
Race Compare lines two races up furlong by furlong and ranks every runner from both over the same stretch, in seconds and lengths. A runner that got within a length of a horse in the other race is highlighted, and it tells you when the two races were run at different paces. Watch Race Compare.
The 3D Pace Preview is open to members, beside Predicted Running Styles on every racecard. It shows how the early pace is likely to unfold from each runner's sectional history. Watch the preview.
All three are part of the Sectionals add-on, on top of RaceMetrics Pro or Proform Premium. For the ways to read sectional times against each other, see sectionals side by side.
Does this horse suit the track?
We mapped how each course and trip is laid out: track type, direction, gradient, bends, the run to the first bend, the home straight and the finish. It is on the profile pages as breakdowns and in the System Builder as rules.
Tracks like today's then gives the record of the horse, its trainer and its sire on courses shaped like the one it runs at today, as rules, breakdown tables and My Card columns. Form Expert has a Similar Tracks column for the same question. Watch how it works.
Rail movements now show too. When the rails have moved, the racecard says how many yards further or shorter the race will be run, before the off, from the British Horseracing Authority's own published changes.
The System Builder
154 new rules and 58 new breakdown tables. The ones you are most likely to use first:
- The racecard Win% as a rule and a table, so "the top Win% runner given a 20% chance or more" can be back-tested, saved and followed
- "Clear by" for every RaceMetrics rating, from the trainer and jockey ratings to Collateral Form and Future Form, also as My Card columns
- Sire figures on today's race type and class, with more on going and trip
- The jockey's own percentage of rivals beaten (PRB) over 14 days, 28 days and five years, to read beside the trainer's
- Headgear combinations as one row each, plus "None of" on the headgear and course shape rules, so you can find wind-op runners not in blinkers
- Run style shares and ranks: how often each horse has led, raced prominently or been held up
- Speed figure par tables: the figures each class takes to win, down the side of the Grid
- Full Move: how a system did when the money came between the evening and morning prices
- Trainer winners over 14 and 28 days, and a yard's runners in the race
- In-running comments reaching back four runs, and one text rule that can match several phrases ("ran on | kept on")
Returns at the evening, breakfast and morning prices are now settled as a bookmaker would, with Rule 4 deductions for late withdrawals and dead heats paid at part stake. A long table now says how many lines would look significant by chance alone, and picks out the lines that clear a higher bar.
The Portfolio has a Back / Lay switch for each system. Your systems' record on Today's Qualifiers now covers the last 3 and 6 months as well. Breakdown tables load as you scroll, so a tab opens more quickly and you only wait for the tables you read.
We also made some short how-to films: find the next one like the horse that just won, the rank tables in Breakdowns, which favourite your system is backing, handicap debutants and the likely leader.
On the racecard and the dashboard
- FAV? pill. A red-outlined flag beside a favourite shorter than 2/1 whose trainer or jockey is Cold on Form Temperature. It is rare on purpose, about one short-priced favourite in sixty
- Trainer trend. A small arrow beside each trainer showing how far the yard's RaceMetrics Rating has moved in the last 14 days
- Your marks on the dashboard tiles. See which races hold your pattern matches, your noted horses and your system qualifiers before you open them. Show on tiles turns each mark on or off, and the choice follows you to every device
- Find a race more quickly. A date bar with the coming days and then the results, a sort by time across all meetings, a Flat / NH filter, the distance on every race box, and a button to fold the filters away
- Form lines. A days since last run column, so a horse's breaks read straight down the form
- Profiles. An Age filter on all seven kinds of profile, so a sire or trainer page can show two-year-olds only
- Breeding tab. The trip behind each sibling's best rating
- My Card. Click a runner's Patterns badge to open the patterns it matches
- My notes. A filter on Runners A-Z for the horses you have written about, and a section in the 9pm email listing those running tomorrow
- Irish going. Irish races show the going as officially worded, Yielding included
- Draw & Pace. Tick a box and the going filter follows each race as you move round the card
- Abandoned meetings. Runners now come off within about ten minutes of the announcement, even a day or two ahead
Data Export
Proform Premium members can now download the entries from five days out, with a file of every change and a fresh file daily at 4pm. Your own My Ratings figures can go into your exports. Daily card files can wait for the prices, so they arrive with those columns filled, and each saved export can send results, declarations or both.
Free pages, and the rest
Two new free pages need no login: today's steamers and drifters, and today's longest travellers, the runners who have come furthest from the yard. Trainers in Form now lists the hottest and coldest yards with runners today, and our page on the Starting Price shows what a £1 stake on every runner returned at SP and at Betfair SP.
Hot & Cold Trainers can put meetings together and score yards over 28 days as well as 14. Market Movers shows the trainer under each horse in the top lists. There is a new puzzle game, Paddock Panic, in the RaceMetrics Arcade.
Every change members can see is now listed with its date on our What's new page, which also started in October.
The part we are proudest of
Fourteen of October's entries on What's new end with the same three words: a member's idea. Trainer trend, the marks on the dashboard tiles, days since last run on the form lines, the Age filter, the racecard Win% as a rule, the jockey's own PRB and the run style tables all started with someone asking.
If something is missing, tell us. That is genuinely how most of this got built.
