The 3D Pace Preview is now on every upcoming racecard. A race replay shows you how a race was run. The Pace Preview shows you how the next one is likely to be run, before the stalls open.
How it works
Press 3D Pace Preview beside the Predicted Running Styles. On the Flat the field breaks from the stalls in their drawn positions (over jumps they set off from the tape), and over the first fifth of the trip each horse heads for its predicted early position. The picture then settles on the likely shape of the race: where the pace is, who has cover, and who will need the race to fall right.
What it is built from
- Predicted Running Styles: where each horse has raced early in its last ten runs with sectional data, recent runs counting most
- Gate Speed Scores: how quickly each horse has broken from the stalls in its recent tracked runs
- Pace profiles: each horse's record of leading, racing prominently or being held up over its last ten runs
- The draw: stall positions for the break
- The pace forecast: strong, moderate or slow, from the number of likely leaders, with an allowance for the going
An example
The video uses Southwell's seven-furlong handicap on 24 October. Shaw Park, the only front runner in the field, crosses over from stall ten to lead. Finn Ironside, who had led in almost two thirds of its recent runs, goes with it from stall eleven, while Anthropologist, held up in each of its last ten runs, drops in towards the back from stall three.
Using it
There are five cameras (Broadcast, Drone, Finish Line, Onboard and Free), you can click a horse in the running order to follow it, and the scrubber takes you to any point of the preview. It is badged as a prediction: an illustration of the likely early pace, not timing data and not a forecast of the result.
Who can use it
