Who can use it: members with the Sectionals Add-On.
Race Compare lines two races up furlong by furlong using their sectional times. A classic use: on one card, compare the last two miles of a 3m handicap hurdle with a 2m Graded hurdle run on the same ground. A handicapper that covered that stretch within a length of a Graded horse may be well treated by its mark. Open it from any race's Sectionals with Compare with another race, or from Racecards → Race Compare in the navigation.
- Start the clock at a furlong marker both races pass. Markers count back from the winning line, so on the same course they are the same spot of ground. The furthest marker the two races share is chosen for you. For two races over the same trip you can also start at the off.
- Show the field at any marker between the clock start and the line, one furlong at a time.
- One combined list ranks every runner from both races by its time over that stretch, with how many lengths it was behind the quickest. A Race B runner that got within a length of a Race A runner is highlighted, with the Race A horse named. Use Swap to make the other race the benchmark.
- Side by side shows each race's own running order at the marker, with the recorded lengths behind the leader.
- The chart takes one horse from each race: their time for every furlong of the stretch, or how many lengths apart they were at each marker.
Lengths come from the seconds, on the BHA scale for the going, worked out from each race's own finishing margins. The check above the figures says in plain words when the comparison is not like for like: a different course or day, different going, hurdles against fences, the Old against the New course, and how far each race had already been run when the clock started (a horse in a 3m race has run a mile further than one in a 2m race when they reach the 2m marker).
Access: Race Compare reads the sectional times, so it needs RaceMetrics Pro or Proform Premium with the Sectionals Add On. It shows figures only. There is no Irish coverage.
