The Market Movers tab on a racecard shows one race at a time. We are often asked where to find the whole day in one place, so there is a new page: Market Movers for the day, every meeting's steamers and drifters together. The video above walks through it in under three minutes.

Two lists at the top

The page opens on today's racing. The line at the top counts the races and the runners, says how many have moved by a point or more, and tells you which two prices are being compared. Under it sit two lists: the biggest steamers, whose price has shortened, and the biggest drifters, whose price has lengthened. Each row gives the off time, the course, the price then and the latest price, and the size of the move.

How a move is measured

A move is the change in a runner's implied chance, in points. A horse backed from 10/1 into 2/1 has gone from about a 9% chance to 33%, which is +24 points. It is the same measure the racecard's Market Movers tab uses, so a figure means the same thing in both places.

Three price times, three windows

The prices are bookmaker prices taken at 8.30pm the evening before, then at 7.30am and 10.30am on the morning of the race. You choose which two are compared:

  • Since 8.30pm: the whole move, from the evening price to the latest one
  • Overnight: from the evening price to 7.30am
  • This morning: from 7.30am to 10.30am

Pick one meeting and both lists narrow to that course. You can also filter to flat or jumps, handicaps only, Britain or Ireland, and set the smallest move worth listing.

Every race, every runner

Below the lists is every race on the card. Each line names its biggest steamer and its biggest drifter, so the day can be scanned without opening anything. Open a race and every runner is there, with all three prices, the move and the horse's Power Rating rank. Every column sorts, every race table on the page follows the same sort, and the page remembers your choice. Click any horse and its racecard opens on the Market Movers tab, with the full picture for that one race.

Non-runners are taken out of the move

When a race loses a runner, every other price shortens to fill the gap. Left alone, that would list half the field as steamers. The page works out what the withdrawal alone would have done to each price, takes that part out, and marks the adjusted moves with a star. Where so much of the market has been withdrawn that the bookmakers have re-priced the whole race, the race is tagged as re-formed, its moves are shown as they happened, and it is left out of the top lists.

Yesterday, with the results filled in

Step back a day and the results are filled in: where each mover finished, its Betfair Starting Price, and a line under each list showing how the day's movers ran to level stakes. That line is one day's record, not a tip. Any day back to 2018 can be opened from the date box.

What a move is, and is not

A price move is information to weigh, not a tip. It tells you what the market has done between two moments. What you make of it is your call.

Which plans include it
