A horse comes in from 10/3 to 6/4 overnight. Is that a yard whose runners usually land the money, or one that gets backed and gets beaten? Until now you had to go and work that out. On Market Movers it is now one click, on any horse that has moved far enough.
That click opens the Market history card. It does not tell you what to do. It shows what the same move did before, for the yard and for the horse, with the returns at the prices you can actually take.
Where to find it
From the 10.30am prices, any horse that has moved 5 points or more of implied chance since 8.30pm, backed or drifting, has a Market history link. It sits under the horse's name on the Since 8.30pm window of Market Movers, and under the trainer on the racecard's Market Movers tab. A point here is a percentage point of chance, so 10/1 into 2/1 is 9.1% to 33.3%, a move of about 24 points.
A horse that was backed: The Boss Bear
The Boss Bear ran for James Owen in a handicap hurdle at Plumpton on 2 November 2026. It was 10/3 at 8.30pm and 6/4 at 10.30am, a move of 16.5 points. The card read:
12 of this yard's last 1,000 runners were backed this far (15 points or more). 6 won. To level stakes: +2.9 pts at the 10.30am price, +4.8 with best odds guaranteed, +5.6 at Betfair SP. Small sample.
Its strongest support in 7 earlier runs. Backed 5+ points once before, and won. Last time: Plumpton, 15 Dec 2025, won (Betfair SP 2.70).
Six winners from twelve is the line that catches the eye. Read the returns beside it: backing all twelve at their 10.30am prices made 2.9 points. And twelve runs is only twelve runs, which is why the card says so.
The Boss Bear finished fourth of seven, at a Betfair SP of 3.19. The card is a record of what happened before, not a forecast of what happens next.
A horse that drifted: Rickety Bridge
The same afternoon at Plumpton, Rickety Bridge went from 2/1 to 3/1 for Paul Nicholls in a handicap chase, a drift of 7.2 points:
136 of this yard's last 1,000 runners drifted this far (5 points or more). 29 won. To level stakes: -12.6 pts at the 10.30am price, +5.6 with best odds guaranteed, +19.0 at Betfair SP.
It has drifted further before. Drifted 5+ points 3 times before, won 1. Last time: Newton Abbot, 12 Jun 2026, won (Betfair SP 4.41).
This is why the card shows three prices. It is the same 136 runners and the same 29 winners, and three different answers: a loss at the 10.30am price, a small profit with best odds, and a bigger one at Betfair SP. The difference is what the prices did after 10.30am, and which of them you would have been paid.
Rickety Bridge finished third of six, at a Betfair SP of 6.69.
How the figures are worked out
- The yard is the trainer's last 1,000 runners with both prices. The move is matched at the level today's horse reached: 5, 10, 15 or 20 points or more, the same way.
- The horse is every earlier run with both prices: whether today is its strongest support or biggest drift, how often it has moved 5 points or more that way, and how many of those it won.
- Earlier days only, going back to 2018, so a past day shows what you would have seen that morning.
- Few runners, few claims. Under 10 runners at that level shows the wins and runs only. From 10 to 29 the returns are marked as a small sample.
- Non-runners. For this history the bookmakers' margin is taken out of the prices and only the runners still in are counted, so a withdrawal cannot fake a move. That can put it a few tenths from the Move column.
- Settlement. Returns are to level stakes. Rule 4 and dead heats are settled at the 10.30am price and with best odds, and Betfair SP is after 2% commission.
Test it for yourself
One card is one horse. To ask the wider question, the same figures are in the System Builder under Market History: rules in Add a rule, six tables on the Market tab of Breakdowns, and columns on the Runs tab. You can ask what a yard's strongest moves have returned over time, or what a horse's biggest drift on file has meant in the races you follow, and see it at the prices you bet at.
The figures are also columns on My Card and in Data Export, and the trainer, jockey, horse and breeding profile pages have a By Market Move box on the Breakdown tab, with a Build a System button on each row.
Who can see it
The card and the profile box come with Market Movers, on Enterprise, RaceMetrics Pro and Proform Premium. The System Builder rules and My Card columns are on RaceMetrics Pro and Proform Premium, and Data Export is on Proform Premium. The day's three biggest steamers and drifters are free on Steamers and Drifters, no login needed.
A price move is information to weigh, not a tip. The Market Movers guide has the rest of the page, and How to Use Market Movers covers the racecard tab.
