RaceMetrics is made by Proform Racing, so we are not neutral. We have kept this to facts from each site's own pages, checked in October 2026, and said where the Racing Post is the better choice.

The short answer: the Racing Post is Britain's racing newspaper online: news, tipsters, Spotlight comments and Racing Post Ratings, now sold as Racing Post+ in three packs from £19 a month. RaceMetrics is a research database: ratings for horses and their connections, and on RaceMetrics Pro a System Builder that back-tests your own rules on every UK and Irish run since 2018 at Betfair Starting Price. For news and opinion, the Racing Post. For testing your own angles, RaceMetrics.

Where the Racing Post is stronger

  • News and journalism. The broadest racing news in Britain, with interviews, stable tours and newsletters.
  • Named tipsters. Pricewise with Tom Segal, and tips from Paul Kealy and Steve Palmer.
  • Spotlight. A written comment and verdict on every runner in every race.
  • The app. A polished free app for iOS and Android.

Where RaceMetrics is stronger

  • Testing your own ideas. The System Builder answers "has this ever made money?" for any combination of rules, with every result at Betfair SP after commission and a hold-out test on races the rules were not built from.
  • Ratings for the connections. Trainers, jockeys, sires, dams, damsires and owners each carry their own RaceMetrics Rating.
  • Sectional times. Finishing speed, upgrades, stride length and cadence on each runner's form lines, with the add-on.
  • The data itself. Proform Premium members can export runner-level CSV files of every UK and Irish race since 2018.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose the Racing Post if you read racing for the news, the tipsters and Spotlight.
  • Choose RaceMetrics if you want to check an angle against years of results before you back it, or work from your own ratings and systems.
  • They do different jobs, and plenty of punters use both.

Frequently asked questions

What is Racing Post+?

Racing Post+ is the Racing Post's paid membership, relaunched on 9 October 2026 as three packs: Insider (journalism, £19 a month), Analyst (racecards, Spotlight, Racing Post Ratings, Pricewise and profiles, £29 a month) and Ultimate (both, £37 a month). Quarterly billing works out cheaper. It replaced the Members' Club.

Does the Racing Post have a system builder?

We could not find one on the Racing Post's subscription pages. RaceMetrics Pro and Proform Premium include the System Builder, which back-tests your rules on every UK and Irish run since 2018 at Betfair SP.

Is RaceMetrics cheaper than Racing Post+?

A RaceMetrics free account and Basic (£10 a month) cost less than any Racing Post+ pack, but they are racecards and ratings rather than news and tips. The System Builder starts with RaceMetrics Pro at £75 a month.

Does the Racing Post have sectional times?

We could not find sectional times on the Racing Post's subscription pages. On RaceMetrics they sit on each runner's form lines as a £50 a month add-on to RaceMetrics Pro or Proform Premium.

Prices and features checked on each site's own pages in October 2026. Prices change; check the site before you buy. RaceMetrics provides data analysis only: we do not accept bets.
