We are often asked where to find a list of today's drifters and steamers. There is no separate page for the whole day. The view lives on every racecard, in the Market Movers tab, one race at a time.

Three prices, recorded for every runner

Each runner carries three recorded bookmaker prices, and you can see them on the racecard's Ratings view in the Eve, Bkf and Morn columns:

  • Evening, taken at about half past eight the night before
  • Breakfast, taken at about half past seven on race morning
  • Morning, taken at about half past ten on race morning

Every move in Market Movers is measured between those three. Open the tab and they sit side by side, each shown as a fraction, as decimal odds and as a percentage chance. Once a race has been run, the Betfair Starting Price (BSP) is added at the end, with a Race-day move from the morning price to the off.

Green for steamers, red for drifters

Between the price blocks, the move columns show how much each horse's chance has changed, in percentage points rather than odds: a horse whose chance goes from 20% to 25% has moved +5. Green means the horse is being backed, a steamer. Red means it is easing in the market, a drifter. The deeper the colour, the bigger the move.

The biggest shortener and the biggest drifter, one click apart

Full Move runs all the way from the evening price to the morning price, and the table opens sorted on it, so the horse that has shortened the most is at the top. Click the Full Move header again and the order flips: the biggest drifter comes to the top. The 1st Move and 2nd Move columns sort the same way if you want the overnight reaction or the race-morning shift on its own.

The market against the model

On RaceMetrics Pro and Proform Premium, the purple columns are the RaceMetrics Model Price (RMP): our own fair price for each runner, struck early on race morning. The Mkt vs RMP column sets the latest bookmaker price against it.

Before the two are compared, the bookmakers' margin is taken out of the price, so both sides are fair chances that add up to 100%. Without that step, most horses would look shorter in the market than the model has them, purely because of the margin.

Blue means the market gives the horse more chance than the model does. Amber means it gives it less. The colours are deliberately not green and red, because neither direction is good or bad: it is a difference of opinion, not a signal. Treat it as an opinion to test, not a tip.
