RaceMetrics is made by Proform Racing, so we are not neutral. We have kept this to facts from each site's own pages, checked in October 2026, and said where BetTurtle is the better choice.

The short answer: BetTurtle and RaceMetrics both offer ratings, a system builder and data downloads for UK and Irish racing. BetTurtle is cheaper to start (Basic from £12 for 28 days or £99 a year), never auto-renews and adds AI tips. RaceMetrics goes deeper for research: back-tests on every run since 2018 at Betfair Starting Price with a hold-out check, sectional times, and ratings for every connection, not just the horse. If you want a ready-made rating and tips at a low price, BetTurtle. If you want to test your own rules thoroughly, RaceMetrics.

Where BetTurtle is stronger

  • Price to start. £99 a year for Basic, an honest free plan, and no auto-renewal.
  • Ready-made answers. Colour-coded Horseshoes and AI tips in every race suit punters who want a steer rather than a research tool.
  • Cheap data downloads. Export starts on the Basic plan, and Pro adds JSON and Parquet; on RaceMetrics, Data Export is part of Proform Premium.

Where RaceMetrics is stronger

  • Depth of history. Back-tests and exports go back to 2018, three more years than BetTurtle's 2021.
  • Returns you could have got. Every System Builder result is shown at Betfair SP after commission, alongside A/E and the early bookmaker prices, so a system is judged on prices you could have taken.
  • Guarding against over-fitting. A hold-out test and a Robustness tab check your rules on races they were not built from.
  • Sectional times and connection ratings. Finishing speed, upgrades and stride data on the form lines, and a rating for every trainer, jockey, sire, dam, damsire and owner.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose BetTurtle if you want an inexpensive rating with tips, or cheap raw data for your own spreadsheet.
  • Choose RaceMetrics if you build and test your own systems and want the longest history, Betfair SP returns and sectional times.

Frequently asked questions

Is BetTurtle any good?

For its price, it is a fair all-rounder: a five-factor rating, AI tips, a system builder and data downloads, with a free plan and no auto-renewal. Its back-tests start in 2021 and we could not find sectional times on its pages.

What is a good BetTurtle alternative?

If you want a deeper system builder, RaceMetrics Pro (£75 a month) back-tests every UK and Irish run since 2018 at Betfair SP with hold-out tests, and adds sectional times as a £50 add-on. If you want the data itself, Proform Premium (£97.50 a month) adds Data Export.

Does BetTurtle have sectional times?

We could not find sectional times on BetTurtle's pages. On RaceMetrics they sit on each runner's form lines as a £50 a month add-on to RaceMetrics Pro or Proform Premium.

Which has the bigger system builder?

BetTurtle lists up to 155 filters on its Pro plan; the RaceMetrics System Builder has 400+ filters and 150+ breakdowns, with results from 2018 at Betfair SP.
